A Year In Review
Your 2015 Horoscope

Wipe off your hooves, preen those wings, and ready your horn because it’s out with the old and in with the new! 2015 is now upon us, and for you, Moonshine, life is definitely going to start out a little rocky. It may be that you have a new job or possibly you’ve relocated to a new city. Are you surrounded by the new, extraordinary, foreign, or strange? It's okay to be scared or show a little disappointment, but don’t be afraid to ask for some friendly faces to help familiarize you with the unfamiliar.

Watch for signs from above as Luna’s skies coordinate a meteor shower with Circinus. It may be an indication that a voyage is in the works. Though you deserve some much-needed R&R after a tumultuous end to 2014, stay fit and careful as this vacation will probably be more trouble than you expected. It may or may not have to do with your current plans, so don’t cross your hooves if you anticipate some fun-in-the-sun Haywaii but find yourself somewhere off the deep end instead. Always keep in mind to stay fresh with the locals, but don’t leave too deep a mark. Remember, when in Roam do as the Roamans!

Career-wise, if you may have been at a standstill or felt a little lost during the past year, you’ll see that your hard work is finally paying off. Maybe you’re not quite off the runway yet, but just having your hooves off the ground is a great start. But now has to be the time for action! You finally understand your place in life, so try not to over think things, but definitely don’t be so nonchalant about problems either. It’s best to keep your head in the game - nothing that a little, nitty gritty studying can’t solve - but be sure to ask advice from others too. Two ponies are always better than one. An outside perspective is always helpful, even if you don’t initially agree with them.

Your relationships are as festive as ever for you, Moonshine. But watch out in July as a dark riff passes the Milky Way and causes turmoil to many friendships around you. Perhaps you have friend or friends who need you now more than other. Or someone from your past will meet with you again. Maybe a reunion is stirring. But don’t look for Cupid’s arrow as his plans are probably to pass over you this year. Still, that’s no cause for melancholy as Ara’s beams are still in your midst. Is that wedding bells I’m hearing? Or the sound of somepony’s new addition? Maybe love isn’t in your forecast, but you’ll still have plenty of time for partying!

As you reach the end of the 2015 respite still tangos away from you. If you did a bad job of burning your bridges this year, you’ll have to face the repercussions sooner or later. It won’t be a trot in the park, so don’t muddy things up a second time!

Twilight put down the newspaper. "Rarity, you know I don’t believe in these things."

"I know, darling, but isn’t it alluring just to see what's in store for you?"

Massive doors creaked opened behind them, Rainbow Dash bursting in with her trademark speed. "There you two are. Come on. Everyone's here. And let's go check out that throne room again! I wanna sit on my awesome seat!"

The two mares nodded. Without another word, they stood up and followed her, leaving the newspaper forgotten on the table behind them.

Huh. I’d think semi-personalized horoscopes would bother to specify the pony’s tribe. Still, astrology in Equestria. This should be interesting, especially since some constellations have a tendency to walk around and crush things.

Oh, wait, was Moonshine the name of the sign? That wasn’t remotely clear, especially since you used Latin to identify Circinus. Still, given that it’s a newspaper horoscope, you did a great job of capturing the vagueness of such things while still fitting in some Season 5 foreshadowing. This could use another proofreading pass and the prompt connection is rather tenuous, but it was still an enjoyable read.

funny how I read this shortly after the one where Twilight explains Astronomy.
and also the self-help booklet. I wonder if it's the same author.

horoscopes are always so frustratingly vague, aren't they? this did a good job of imitating that style.... unfortunately. seeing multiple paragraphs of that stuff lost my attention, and I skimmed ahead. started reading again when the quote block ended. so now I found out Twilight was the reader, but it's over. OOH, this story's a puzzle to solve! now I actually want to pay attention to the horoscope, better re-read it.

well, that wasn't too hard to figure out. it's the major events of Season 5. after the first few, the rest becomes obvious and I barely had to think. clever idea, but it doesn't lead to anything. even the characters throw away the newspaper and forget about it. I had to work extra to get some information I already knew about... and I expect more from a story than that.

I wonder if Luna ever feels mischievous enough to move around all the constellations, or create new ones, every now and then. I'd love to read about that, and how she ends up getting sued by the magazines displaying now-inaccurate horoscope essays.

But this was fun too. The style of writing captures the feel of a horoscope very well, but the sheer length of it kinda made this one even more outlandish than usual. I also didn't feel it captured the essence of the prompt in a particularly strong way.

That said, I enjoyed reading this one. Thanks for sharing.

I'm confused by the ending of the story and its intent. Is Rainbow Dash showing she read the 'scope or something? Is that a non-sequitur involving her? Or is the message "The Cutie Map shows you what's in store and you don't normally think about it that way"? The story is fine, but I really can't tell what the message is.

Roan, not Roam.

This is a pretty straightforward story, Writer. Summarizing the significant events of Season 5 via horoscope is interesting, if not entirely in keeping with the prompt. It's clever obfuscation, while still allowing you enough information to tease out which references are being made. A neat sort of puzzle, which is fitting, considering the sorts of things you find next to horoscopes in newspapers. I agree with >>Haze, though - there's not anything more to the story than that.

Still, I liked it for what it is. Nice job, Writer.

I was under the impression that Roam=Rome; while I do like the word roan, it doesn't work as well with the saying.

Although, Roanin would be a hell of a ponification for Ronin. Yooo, somepony needs to write that!

They've referred to Roan in extended canon (I believe).

I didn't pick up on the fact that this was referencing anything. Are you sure about your interpretation? I still don't see it.

Have they really? Crumb, I need to pay better attention start paying attention to the non-show stuff.

Well, as I see it, this entire story takes place immediately prior to the start of the Season 5 premeire. The very first thing that happens at the beginning of the episode is Twilight fretting to the rest of the Mane 6 about the deeper meaning behind her receiving her new castle from the Tree of Harmony. Rainbow Dash plants her butt on her own throne while giving a brief summary of the Season 4 finale to Twilight, hence the lines in the story, "And let's go check out that throne room again! I wanna sit on my awesome seat!" She's talking as though this is a new experience for her, and the episode shows the first time she (and the rest of the mares) sit on their thrones.

As for the main body of the horoscope, almost every episode of Season 5 is referenced in some oblique way, from the events of "Castle Sweet Castle" ("Are you surrounded by the new, extraordinary, foreign, or strange? It's okay to be scared or show a little disappointment, but don’t be afraid to ask for some friendly faces to help familiarize you with the unfamiliar") to "The One Where Pinkie Pie Knows" ("Is that wedding bells I’m hearing? Or the sound of somepony’s new addition? Maybe love isn’t in your forecast, but you’ll still have plenty of time for partying").

It's a little too obscure, I think. Clever is fine but I have to be able to get the meaning. :V

I only know because it was in one of the first two or three comic books. "When in Roan..." I think with respect to trying to pretend to be changelings.

See, now I feel silly, since I kinda forgot the comics existed... after getting the first 30-some issues as they came out. -_-

Still, this is as good an excuse as any to re-read them.
